32nd Annual Conference of ISDRS
Transforming Global Challenges
into Sustainable Opportunities: Collaborations and Partnerships
across the globe

About the Conference
The concept of sustainable development, introduced more than three decades ago, has become central to contemporary science, policymaking, and business practices. Since its emergence in the late 1980s, however, the world has undergone profound economic, social, technological, and environmental transformations. These changes call for a reassessment of sustainability’s relevance in the first half of the 21st century and a renewed discussion on its future directions.

Building on the 2025 ISDRS Annual Conference theme, “Sustainability and Beyond”, the 32nd Annual Conference of the International Sustainable Development Research Society (ISDRS 2026) will focus on:
The 2026 conference moves beyond simply analyzing global crises—such as climate change, social inequalities, and systemic risks—which have deep local and global implications. Instead, it aims to actively catalyze innovation and transformation through collaboration across regions, disciplines, and sectors.
The conference will bring together researchers and practitioners from science, policy, economics, and the humanities, creating a unique space for interdisciplinary exchange. Particular emphasis is placed on voices from the Global South, whose perspectives on innovation, culture, ways of living, behavioral patterns, ecological challenges, and transboundary issues will enrich global sustainability debates.
By connecting insights from landmark global milestones such as the 1992 UN Conference on Environment and Development and the 2025 COP30 Conference, ISDRS 2026 seeks to enable scientists and researchers from around the world to transform global challenges into sustainable opportunities.
The central goal of the conference is to:
- Share boundary-crossing research
- Foster practical, interdisciplinary partnerships
- Transform systemic risks into tangible and equitable opportunities
- Contribute to a resilient and sustainable future for societies worldwide
