The International Sustainable Development Research Society (ISDRS) is a global network of professionals dedicated to advancing sustainable development. We connect researchers and practitioners from academia, policy, and industry across all continents. Our shared mission is to support the urgent and transformative changes needed to create a fair and sustainable society through international collaboration and the open exchange of knowledge, experience, and innovation.

Why This Matters?

The 2024 Progress Report of the UN General Assembly to the Secretary-General revealed that:

  • Only 17% of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) targets are on track to be achieved.
  • Nearly half show only minimal or moderate progress.
  • Over one-third have stalled or regressed.

These findings highlight the critical need for scientific research, open dialogue, and coordinated global action — values at the heart of ISDRS.

A Legacy of Collaboration

For over three decades, the ISDRS Annual Conferences have provided a vibrant platform for advancing this mission. Each year, the event brings together hundreds of scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to share innovative research, practical solutions, and global perspectives.

The 30th Anniversary Conference in Kathmandu, Nepal (2024) and the Budapest Declaration issued at the 2025 Conference in Hungary reaffirmed our collective commitment to building a more sustainable world through collaboration and shared learning.

Why Host the 2027 Conference?

Hosting the 33rd Annual ISDRS Conference offers a unique opportunity to:

✅ Collaborate with our international network of sustainability experts.

✅ Showcase your institution’s leadership and commitment to the SDGs.

✅ Strengthen global partnerships between research, policy, and practice.

✅ Contribute meaningfully to shaping sustainability dialogue and action worldwide.

Examples of Recent ISDRS Conferences

For recent and current examples of ISDRS conferences see the following websites:

Please note that we have curated an ongoing conference website, currently hosted by Oxford Abstracts.  It includes associated facilities for registration, payment, submitting abstracts etc. The website and the conference management system will be overseen by the host, who would need a technical person available to liaise with Oxford Abstracts to prepare and update customised information.

From 2019 onwards conference fees are paid to ISDRS as this will enable a permanent link from the account to the conference management software and therefore save a significant effort every year.  After the conference we will settle the account between the host institution and ISDRS, with ISDRS keeping amounts in line with the fees outlined above, and any balance paid to the host.
