Dear Members of ISDRS,
The second half of 2023 was a busy period for many of us in ISDRS working on our two main projects: the upcoming conference in Kathmandu, Nepal and the launch of our new journal, Sustainability and Beyond as well as many other related issues. Please, find important information about these below.

30th Annual ISDRS Conference in Kathmandu, Nepal

The call for abstract submission to the 30th annual conference is now available at the conference website: 2024isdrsconferences.org – please, check it out for the details.
The extended deadline for abstract submission is the 20th of February, 2024 – please, submit your abstracts if you can join the conference and circulate this information to your colleagues.

Since this year’s conference is an anniversary event, we plan to implement some new initiatives in Nepal. Two plenary sessions are being designed, which will provide an interdisciplinary perspective on issues many of us can relate to. First, a session on sustainability discourse is planned to assess our progress from the original concept of sustainable development to today’s societal challenges. Second, another session will look at the role of universities in sustainability and the specific topic of academic freedom. Please, expect more detailed information about these special sessions in the upcoming months.

We also plan to officially launch the new journal of the Society, ‘Sustainability and Beyond’, which may provide a quality outlet for your research as well in the future.

ISDRS New Professionals Group and its Mentorship Programme

Agnieszka Stefaniec and Saurabh Biswas have been working on the revitalisation of our Mentorship Programme, which is a very important initiative of the Society. Many of you have already been involved in the activities of the New Professionals Group (NPG), which focus on connecting junior and senior researchers, but we need volunteers for the upcoming year as well. Please, check out the ISDRS web page for more information and let Agnieszka and Saurabh know if you are willing to contribute to the initiative.

The upcoming year is a very important one for our Society and we are looking forward to meet you at our annual conference and to work with you in our projects!

Please, feel free to contact us if you have any questions or suggestions.

Best regards,

Sjors Witjes, President
Gyula Zilahy, Vice President
