VII Social-Economic Aspects of Sustainability

Of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the majority are focused on social and economic objectives. The SDGs and rhetoric surrounding them demonstrate an increasingly sophisticated understanding of the complexities involved in achieving sustainable development on the part of the United Nations and national governments. It is clear that environmental, social, and economic sustainability are intrinsically linked and must investigated as such, as complex systems or in terms of their relationships, dynamics, and mutual effects.

This track facilitates an interdisciplinary discussion of the human realms of sustainable development, with a focus on poverty, health, justice and inequality, sustainable communities, institutions and governance, and economic innovation.
